FOR MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE

About Courtney

Allow me to continue as your Trustee. My environmental science and public health background will help to strengthen our community's health, environmental sustainability and diversity to keep Meridian Township the "Best Place to Live in Michigan."

I grew up swimming in the lake, playing sports, and camping which encouraged my love for the outdoors. I began pursuing environmental studies early, in high school, and went on to earn my undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in Natural Resource Development.

For nearly eight years, I managed environmental projects as an environmental scientist with an engineering and consulting firm, including investigation and remediation of hazardous sites throughout the state.

I earned a master’s degree in Public Health from Creighton University, while serving as a Community Development Manager with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). I work to improve public health policy through research and advocacy to ensure environmental justice and health equity for all Michigan residents. I was recently awarded the 2020 MDHHS Outstanding Mentor Award for inspiring and guiding employees.

I proudly serve on our township's Zoning Board of Appeals and Environmental Commission. Before that, I was a member of the Park Commission from 2017-2018. Most recently, I joined the Meridian Township COVID-19 Response Team to assist our fire and police chiefs and the township manager in providing resources to Meridian residents to help keep them safe and healthy during the current pandemic.

As a Meridian Township Trustee, it would be my great privilege to continue to serve and make a positive impact in our community by ensuring:

  • Environmental sustainability by adopting policy that improves energy use, reduces waste, and supports our parks, trails and land preserves. Opening the Marketplace on the Green is one exciting project I have had the opportunity to assist with while serving as a Parks Commissioner.

  • Diversity in the community by adopting policy that supports assorted residential developments, local businesses and activities. The project to redevelop downtown Okemos and Haslett will provide the community with access to these opportunities.

  • We embrace our community through supporting active participation in events and adopting policy that improves our infrastructure. The Board is committed to ensuring all 147 miles of neighborhood roads will be fixed by 2029, starting this summer.
